Community Darkroom Ground Rules

Welcome to the community darkroom. This space exists to support creative work and shared learning. Please read these rules carefully before using the facilities. They help keep the darkroom safe, clean and accessible for everyone.

Work safely at all times. Handle chemicals with care, use protective gear when needed and keep liquids away from electrical equipment. Ask for guidance if you are unsure about any procedure.
Respect the schedule. Arrive and leave on time so others can use their booked sessions. Clean up before your time ends and allow a smooth handover.
Use the equipment responsibly. Adjust enlargers, timers and tools only when necessary and return everything to its proper position when finished. Report any damage or malfunction immediately.
Keep the darkroom clean. Rinse trays, wipe surfaces, empty bins and remove personal items before leaving. Do not leave prints, paper or film behind.
Follow chemical guidelines. Only trained personnel will handle the mixing and disposal of all chemicals. Users must not pour chemicals into sinks or drains and must follow staff instructions at all times.
Protect light sensitive materials. No phones are allowed inside the darkroom when in use. Phones must be switched off or stored outside the workspace. Keep paper sealed when not in use. Do not open film or paper in inappropriate lighting. Ensure safelights are used correctly.
Share the space with courtesy. Keep noise low, respect others’ concentration and give priority to scheduled users. Do not interrupt ongoing work unless necessary.

Store personal items properly. Use the provided shelves or lockers and remove valuables when you leave. The darkroom is not responsible for lost or damaged items.
Respect the community. Use the space for positive and creative work. Treat fellow users with professionalism and kindness.

Ask for induction before first use. All new users must complete an introduction session to ensure familiarity with equipment, safety rules and workflow.

Thank you for helping us keep this darkroom a safe and inspiring place for everyone.
